An American Airlines jet taxiing for takeoff has safely returned to a Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport terminal after another pilot spotted an apparent engine fire.
American spokesman Paul Flaningan says emergency personnel Monday morning found no signs of fire aboard Flight 294. Nobody was hurt on the twin-engine Boeing 737-800 bound for Detroit.
The jet, with 141 passengers and a five-person crew, was removed from service. The Federal Aviation Administration says an inspection showed a possible fuel leak.
FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the jet was on a runway when the pilot of another aircraft reported seeing flames coming from an engine.
Flaningan says Flight 294’s pilot saw an indicator light illuminated and returned to the terminal. The onboard crew did not see any fire.
Passengers were rebooked to Detroit.
