Last year, the first air show at the Warsaw Memorial Airport was, aside from some logistical setbacks, a raving success. Well, it will be returning this summer, and this year the organizers are prepared for a much bigger crowd.
“We’re better organized this year,” says Jim Holbrock. Air show goers can expect all the great aeronautic awesomeness from last year, but with more food (including a beer garden for the adults), more parking and more porta-pots.
The show has expanded to a 2 day event. On Friday, August 16, there will be a live concert, a media flight and a balloon release. Pilots will re-enact the Candy Bomber Hershey bar drops. Then there’s a full day of events lined up for Saturday.
A number of planes will be on display during the show, including an F4U Corsair, a T-6 Texan and a Candy Bomber. “Probably the highlight of the whole show is the 4-engine C-54,’ says Al Hoover, president of the Historic Flights Organization.
Airplane and helicopter rides will be offered again. There will be airplane-car races. A parachute display happens after noon.
From 1 to 3 p.m. there will be an aerobatics display. Then from 3 to 4 p.m. is the Jet Revue, which will include flyovers and an afterburner display.
Aerial performers this year are: “Pitts Bob” Richards, Cliff Robinson, Ralph Luces, Patrick McAlee, Paul Grossnickle and Al Hoover, Dave Folk, Dean Cutshall and Mike Wild.
Come early for the pancake breakfast at 7 a.m., then enjoy all the aerial activities. Admission is free, but a $5 donation will be accepted at the parking lot gates.
Each entrant will be given a bottle of water, and shuttles will be carting patrons from the parking areas to the airport.
