So much for a secret ingredient: A Guatemalan man was arrested at a New Jersey airport earlier this month after customs agents found he had secreted more than $50,000 worth of cocaine inside three batches of cookies, authorities said.
Mauricio Isidro Rivera Hernandez flew into Newark Liberty Airport from Guatemala City on June 5 with cookies stowed inside of three of his bags, according to a statement from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
CBP spokesman Anthony Bucc said that as agents inspected Hernandez's bags, they found 118 "small oval-shaped pellets" hidden inside each cookie. The pellets tested positive for cocaine with an estimated street value of $52,000.
Hernandez is facing drug smuggling charges.
