A man who pleaded guilty today to endangering a Ryanair flight on its way to Stansted Airport must wait to hear his fate. Sentencing of Michael McDonagh, 28, of Glendish Road, Tottenham, who was said to have been drinking but not drunk, was adjourned by Chelmsford Magistrates Court until June 25. But District Judge John Woollard warned McDonagh a jail sentence could be considered. The court was told that McDonagh was returning from a funeral in Dublin when the incident, in which he was said to have injured the arm of a woman passenger, occurred. McDonagh was with a party of ten who were in “high spirits” before the flight, the court heard. Nicola Warner, prosecuting, said: “There were numerous problems on the flight with people in the party drinking and Guinness cans taken away.
“The defendant went to the toilet and then after shouting and being loud with others in the centre of the plane decided to run down the aircraft.
“He collided with the arm of a woman and she is still receiving physiotherapy. Police attended the flight at Stansted and the victim identified him while walking down the aircraft, although he had changed seat and clothing.
“Following the incident during the flight, the pilot displayed the ‘fasten seat belts’ sign to prevent further incidents.”
Nicola Pope, mitigating, said: “There was no intent to cause anybody any harm, he travelled slightly quicker down the aisle than should have.
“He was under the influence of alcohol, not drunk. His change of clothes was simply putting on a fleece over his white T-shirt
“His group was travelling back from a funeral and although they were in high spirits, it was decided to let the group fly.”
