The Japan Aircraft Industries (JAI) consortium will supply 21% of the major structural components on the B777X under the terms of a memorandum of agreement signed this week.
Boeing announced the 777X program last November at the 2013 Dubai Air Show. In January it settled on the final assembly of the next-generation widebody, set to enter service in 2020, at the Boeing factory in Seattle.
In February, it selected its factory in Everett, Washington, as the location to build a new composite wing center section for the 777X.
The deal with JAI will involve Japanese companies supplying fuselage sections, center wing sections, pressure bulkheads, main landing gear wells, wing components, wing-body fairings and passenger, cargo and main landing gear doors for the 777X.
JAI is a consortium comprised of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Fuji Heavy Industries, ShinMaywa Industries and NIPPI Corporation.
Production on the 777X is targeted to start in 2017.
