Passenger traffic at airports in the Asia Pacific region continued to climb in April 2014.
According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), the region experienced a strong 6.0% jump in passenger flows during the month. And while this was partially due to the timing of Easter this year, the average growth rate for the first four months of the year remains steady, at +5.5%.
Beijing Capital International Airport was the region’s busiest airport for the year-to-date 2014 period, followed by Tokyo Haneda, Hong Kong International and Guangzhou Baiyun International – the home of Asia’s biggest airline, China Southern.
The strongest growth in passenger numbers however, was seen at Bangkok Don Mueang (+20.3%), Chiang Mai (+19.9%), Kaohsiung (+18.9%), Hangzhou (+17.8%) and Kuala Lumpur (+14.5%).
Over the first four months of the year, the growth rate of international and domestic traffic in Asia has been fairly evenly spread, with a 5.3% rise in domestic traffic and a 6.0% jump in international.
