Airport expecting their busiest rush of the year

Walmart shareholders week starts Monday but Sunday is when the airport is expected to see its biggest rush of the year. Thousands of people across the globe are expected to fly into Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport on Sunday. Airport officials met two months prior to shareholders week to coordinate an estimated arrival of people this week.

Walmart shareholders week brings in more than 2,000 flights during a three-day period, said Kelly Johnson, the airport’s director.

Walmart worked with airport representatives to make sure shuttles were provided this year for people flying at specific times. There is also a new, bigger hallway to create more space for travelers this week. Johnson said departure lines are expected to be longer because everyone’s leaving around the same time. The airport will allow other travelers to get around the airport before Walmart travelers. The airport has also increased security because of shareholders week, Johnson said.
