Beijing Capital (83.7 million), Guangzhou Baiyun (52.4m), Shanghai Pudong (47.1m), Shanghai Hongqiao (35.6m) and Chengdu Shuangliu (33.4m) were the busiest airports in China in 2013, according to newly released figures by Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The top 10 was completed by Shenzhen Bao’an (32.2m), Kunming Changshui (29.6m), Xi’an Xiangyang (26m), Chongqing Jiangbei (25.2m) and Hangzhou Xiaoshan (22.1m), as a total of 754 million passengers (+11%) passed through China’s gateways last year.
The nationwide upturn meant that China’s airports handled 130 million passengers last year than they did in 2012, meaning that traffic topped the 700 million mark for the first time in its aviation history.
Domestic passenger numbers hit a new high – rising 10.8% to account for a significant 690 million of last year’s annual total – as did international traffic, which jumped 13.3% to 63.4 million.
A total of 61 airports handled in excess of one million passenger last year – four airports more than that in 2012 – and 24 more than 10mppa, three more than the previous year.
